SEBI Chairman’s Investor Roundtable in New York & Washington, D.C.

US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) hosted the honorable SEBI Chairman, Shri Ajay Tyagi, along with the SEBI delegation in October for an investor roundtable in New York. The SEBI team was welcomed by USISPF President and CEO, Dr. Mukesh Aghi. Dr. Aghi began by emphasizing the strong need for U.S.-India strategic cooperation. On behalf of SEBI, Shri Ajay Tyagi made an elaborate presentation on the current state of the Indian capital markets and its future directions. Some of the key areas captured by the presentation pertained to current trends in the Indian capital markets; recently updated FPI regulatory regime; investment opportunities in REITs, AIFs, infrastructure sector, CPSEs and distressed assets.
US India strategic and commercial ties

After the presentation, investors engaged with the SEBI Chairman on various issues such as the need for comprehensive stakeholder consultations in regulation-making process; outlook for developing a robust corporate bond market; development of DR scheme; direct listing of Indian firms in foreign exchanges; evolution of the bankruptcy code and its implications; SEBI’s regulatory sandbox framework etc. After detailed deliberations on the various issues, SEBI Chairman invited written suggestions from the investors which may be considered by SEBI in the near future.
