South Asia Women in Energy (SAWIE)

SAWIE is a joint initiative by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) that engages with women professionals representing the energy as well as industrial and manufacturing sectors, on gender sensitivity and inclusion, with the aim of enhancing the skills of women executives through knowledge exchange programs. It identifies women leaders in the energy and infrastructure space who have shown exemplary leadership and highlights their contributions towards the sector to promote gender inclusivity policies and motivate aspiring qualified women to opt for careers in Indian and global energy utilities.

Formally launched by Edgard D. Kagan, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission to India, during the 2nd International Conference on Large-scale Grid Integration of Renewable Energy in September 2019, SAWIE works on developing a collaborative and strategic approach towards reaching gender equality goals and building strong pillars for “Women Prospering in the Workplace” and “Women Enabled in the Economy.”
