General Description Of Duties:
This role will manage a broad policy portfolio including pharmaceuticals, medical devices & diagnostics, health services providers, and technology companies. The objective is to develop expertise and lead on policy developments in the portfolio, identify key issues, prepare background briefs, engage key stakeholders and lead the policy discussions/ Stakeholder meetings and initiatives. This position reports to the India Managing Director of the US India Strategic Partnership Forum.
Detailed Description Of Duties:
- Analyze the existing regulatory environment, craft and effectively deliver a coordinated advocacy strategy that helps mitigate risks thereby playing a pivotal role in catalyzing sustainable growth for the business. Real time tracking of new developments within the portfolio by reading trade press, GOI websites, US Government and other sources.
- Work with external stakeholders and experts to determine potential opportunities, regulatory issues, trade barriers arising from such changes that may affect the members, their operating models, products and clients. In addition, engage with Centre, state, other healthcare ecosystem stakeholders and community economic development workforce, and other key, officials as well as other key public/private stakeholder groups.
- Facilitate meetings between USISPF members and key stakeholders, including the government, regulators and alliance partners to promote and advocate on issues at hand.

- Prepare submissions to regulatory reviews and engage in consultation with regulators, policymakers & overall decision makers.
- Manage and curate programs and events within the portfolio. This includes creating budgets and securing sponsorship/registration funds and keeping a track.
- Contribute to public policy and advocacy activity within USISPF, which will include coordinating and drafting responses to public consultation papers, position papers and speaking notes for company representation in conferences, panels, round tables etc.
- Participating in industry associations and other industry group work on regulatory change including contributing to industry association responses to consultation papers.
- Ensure that all member companies assigned to the portfolio are regularly engaged with Forum. This includes soliciting their policy views, joining them in government meetings, and polling members on key issues.
- Director will be responsible for expansion of the membership base by adding new members in the sector.
- Lead in preparing knowledge papers, Reports, Position papers, newsletter, and other sectoral representations.
- Design and implement thematic projects, so as to develop working groups on healthcare priority areas and align USISPF sectoral activities with national health agenda.
- Ensure participation in all relevant govt stakeholder consultation in relevant dept & Ministries e.g. DoP, NPPA, ICMR, DBT, DST, MoHFW, DHR, NITI, DPIIT, MEA, DGHS, NHA, BIRAC etc & input submissions beforehand.
- To engage and develop working relationship with other healthcare associations/professional bodies, to jointly work upon sectoral submissions/ Flagship events etc.
- To organize member briefing sessions/ meetings on a regular basis especially after relevant announcements, orders, Circulars, press release and joint statements.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience related to the healthcare sector. Prior consulting/advocacy work in the sector is a plus.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a relevant discipline. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- A basic familiarity/understanding of India’s culture, political structure, government functioning and business environment is required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel is required.
- Fluent written and spoken English is necessary. Excellent skills in research, analysis, writing, speaking, and client relations are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of and background in advocacy and public policy development pertaining to Healthcare sector as they apply in the pharmaceuticals, medical devices and diagnostics sector
- Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate, political and educational institution levels.
- Ability to maintain the highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
- Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures as well as working independently.
- Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals.
- Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others as required. Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
